New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended the sentence of Congress ML Mohammed Mokim in a corruption case.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta issued notice to the Odisha government on the appeal filed by the Cuttack-Barabati MLA challenging the Orissa High Court verdict.

The bench said, “Issue notice.” After hearing the senior counsel for the parties and considering all the circumstances, an order has been passed to suspend the sentence of the petitioner.

The high court on April 10 dismissed Mokim's appeal, which had challenged the vigilance court order which had sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 in a corruption case.

Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar convicted Moki in a corruption case on September 29, 2022.
