After much persuasion, a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant agreed to examine the special leave petition and sought the response of Bhavani Revanna, who is the daughter-in-law of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, in the matter.

The bench, also comprising Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan, questioned senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, representing the SIT, about the role of Prajwal Revanna's mother.

Responding, senior lawyer Sibal said that the victim in her statement recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has described the role of Bhavani Revanna in her abduction.

Noting that the petition concerns the liberty of a woman whose guilt is to be determined during the trial, the top court cautioned that there is no need to politicize the case.

On June 18, the Karnataka High Court had allowed the anticipatory bail plea of Bhavani Revanna in the kidnapping case linked to the sex video scam.

As a condition for granting anticipatory bail, a bench headed by Justice Krishna S Dixit of the High Court banned his entry into Mysuru and Hassan districts.

The victim in the kidnapping case is a resident of Mysuru district and Hassan Bhavani is the native district of Revanna.

Karnataka High Court said in its order that Bhavani Revanna has answered 85 questions asked by the police, hence the argument of her non-cooperation in the investigation cannot be accepted.

Bhavani Revanna is currently appearing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the kidnapping case of a maid, who allegedly faced sexual harassment at the hands of Prajwal Revanna and her husband JD MLA HD Revanna.
