Mumbai, Sun Mobility on Wednesday announced a strategic collaboration and a joint venture with Indian Oil to set up and deploy battery swapping infrastructure network by 2030.

The joint venture is expected to reach 10,000 battery swapping stations in over 40 cities over the next three years and seamlessly transition to electric mobility in two, three as well as small four wheelers with 'Battery as a Service' (BaaS). It said the joint venture brings together Indian Oil's network of over 37,000 fuel stations across the country, with SUN Mobility's battery swapping technology making it as accessible as conventional fuel stations.

Thus it will streamline the customer's EV experience by offering BaaS easily across the country and reduce concerns of battery cost, maintenance, replacement and charging time.

According to the statement, SUN Mobility currently supports over 25,000 electric vehicles across 20 cities in the country, using over 630 stations and over 50,000 smart batteries, serving various two-wheeler and three-wheeler customers. Performs over one million swaps per month.
