Sinha was addressing the two-day J&K Tourism Development Conclave 2024 at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center (SKICC) in Srinagar.

He said the successful G-20 task force meeting held here last year helped the struggling local tourism industry and now both domestic and foreign tourists are thronging J&K.

"J&K's tourism industry has gone through a massive transformation in the last few years," he said.

“Those who participated in the tourism task force meeting in Srinagar last year spoke highly of the hospitality and beauty of Kashmir. The result of the word they spread is before us.

"While the tourism sector contributes to the economy of J&K, agriculture and allied sectors also have enormous potential to generate employment to boost the economy of the UT," he added.

“I met some young people who left their government jobs and shaped their future in agriculture and allied sectors. Today, they also employ dozens of other young people,” he stated.

The LG criticized some people, who, according to him, claim to be jacks of all trades.

“It is necessary to change this mentality. Mushtaq Chaya, a prominent hotelier, owns half of the land in Srinagar. He came to see me once and looked for a piece of land to set up his office. “I told him I needed a channel from him for the government,” he said.

The LG also commented on people who have acquired properties due to their involvement in the conflict, who have come to own “conflict properties”.

“It is necessary to identify these properties. We remain committed to not touching the innocent, but those who try to destabilize the peace will not be saved at any price,” he stated.

About the Tatoo Ground in the city's Batamaloo area that was vacated by the Army after 50 years, he said the place will have a state-of-the-art amusement park where tourists would love to spend the entire day.

"Srinagar will soon receive thousands of tourists only thanks to the renovated Tatoo Ground."

At the renovated Polo View market on Srinagar city's Residency Road, he said he had met market traders, who told him that his business had tripled due to the tourist rush.

He urged stakeholders to draw up a roadmap for promotion of spiritual tourism, adventure tourism, summer tourism, ecotourism, wildlife tourism, religious tourism, bird watching and agricultural tourism. and horticultural.

"India has a $130 million wedding industry and J&K is the best destination for weddings," he said.

“I hope J&K gets its share of this huge industry. J&K has the lowest crime rate in the country and this should encourage tourists from all walks of life to come and spend their holidays here,” he said.
