Rae Bareli (UP): A 58-year-old police sub-inspector posted to guard a strong room in Rae Bareli district died suddenly on Friday due to deteriorating health, a police officer said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Naveen Singh said that the cause of death will be known after the post mortem report comes.

Voting was held for Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat on May 20 in the fifth phase of elections and a set of electronic voting machines were kept in the strong room set up at the Industrial Training Institute in Gora Bazar here.

Heavy police force has been deployed to protect the strong room.

Sub-inspector Harishankar (58), posted at Mill Area police station, was also put on security duty at the strong room, a police officer said.

The officer said that his health suddenly deteriorated and the policemen deployed with him took him to the district hospital, where he died during treatment.

Mill Area Police Station SHO Sanjay Kumar said that SI Harishankar was a resident of Bhadohi and was posted at the police station for about a year.
