Guwahati, Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Bora on Friday claimed that states ruled by the BJP and its allies have become the "nerve centre" of question paper leaks and the NEET-UG issue is the latest example of this.

Bora made the allegation while leading a protest against alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination this year.

Holding the government responsible for the 'question paper leak', he said, 'It has become clear that question paper leaks are happening continuously in BJP ruled states including Assam.

"In this latest example of NEET-UG examinations, it is states like Gujarat and Bihar, ruled by the BJP or its allies, that have emerged as nerve centres."

During the protest, the state Congress chief claimed that the central government is unable to conduct the examinations smoothly.

Several Congress MLAs and other leaders as well as members of its student wing NSUI also joined the protest.

NSUI members also attempted to protest outside the party office, but were stopped by the police from leaving the premises.

The medical entrance exam, National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET-UG, was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 5 in which around 24 lakh candidates appeared.

The results were declared on 4 June.

In states like Bihar, there have been allegations of question paper leaking and other irregularities in the examination. The allegations led to protests in several cities and petitions were filed in several high courts as well as the Supreme Court.
