New Delhi: From around 350 startups in 2014, their number in India has grown more than 300 times in the last ten years since Narendra Modi became prime minister, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday.

He said today the country has the third largest startup ecosystem globally and is home to the fastest growing unicorns.

"For the first time in the history of independent India, Modi as Prime Minister made a painstaking and conscious effort to educate the youth of this country that employment is not limited to government jobs only and promoted new ways of livelihood Which can be more lucrative than a government job,” Minister of State for Personnel Singh told here.

He said startups in India have grown more than 30 times in the ten years since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, from around 350 startups in 2014.

Singh further said, PM Modi promoted India's space research by opening up the hitherto conservative and secluded sector."With the dual achievement of Chardayan-3 and Aditya L1 solar mission just last year, India has truly reached the Moon and beyond," he said.

The number of space startups has grown from single digits to three digits in about four years since the space sector was opened up to the private sector, Singh said.
