Sumita Dawra, Secretary, Ministry of Labor and Employment, said, all these together created about eight crore new jobs in the last five years.

Dawra said this while referring to the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) at an event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Indian Employers Federation (EFI) in the national capital.

He also revealed reforms like decriminalization of labor laws and increasing female workforce participation undertaken by the ministry for ease of doing business.

He said reforms like social security and labor welfare are expected to promote inclusive growth in India.

Furthermore, “29 labor laws were codified into four labor laws. A National Career Services Portal is active and data from the Skills Ministry is being integrated”, Dawra said.

Furthermore, he said that India has "about 1 crore gig workers and the gig economy is expected to employ about 2.4 crore people by 2030."

Meanwhile, the government has also constituted a task force to study the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the future of work, the senior official said, and called for more research.
