Chennai, independent health insurance company Star Health and Allied Insurance Company, with an aim to provide home healthcare services, have launched home healthcare service in 50 cities, a senior official said.

The city-based company will further expand the service to other cities, said MD and CEO Anand Roy.

"We are happy to announce the launch of home healthcare services in 50 cities and towns today. Customers are always at the center and this offering aims to provide effective healthcare at the customer's doorstep," he told reporters.

To launch the service, he said Star Health has collaborated with Care24, Portea, CallHealth, Athulya Homecare and Argala to offer home healthcare across India.

To a question, he said the company initially piloted the service in Coimbatore, Pune, Delhi and Kolkata and later decided to expand it to other cities.

Customers can avail treatment for various ailments such as fever, acute gastroenteritis, urinary tract infection and acute gastritis by calling the toll-free number 044-69006900 or using the Star Health mobile application.

Through the initiative, doctors would be available at a customer's doorstep within a short period of time and consumers could get easy access to medications, diagnostic tests and specialized care.

To a query, Star Health and Allied Insurance Associate Vice President, Head of Claims - Digital, Alternative Channels, Dr U Hari Hara Sudan, said the cost of a treatment for a period of 5 days for a patient, including fees of the doctor and nurse, it would be around Rs 7,000 - Rs 7,500 and would be deducted from the sum insured.

If a patient requires additional treatment and hospitalization, he will be referred to a health care provider, he said.

Star Health and Allied Insurance has 881 offices, 30,000 healthcare providers, over 7 lakh agents and 15,000 employees. The company reported gross written premium of Rs 15,254 crore and net profit of Rs 845 crore in FY2024.
