Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav were forced to cut short a public meeting in Phulpur constituency of Prayagraj as the crowd broke barricades and reached the stage, leading to A stampede-like situation arose. The leaders left the rally in Prayagraj without addressing the people of Phulpu assembly constituency. This campaign rally was organized in support of Amarnath Maurya, who is contesting on SP ticket from Phulpur Lok Sabha seat. Workers of both Congress and Samajwadi Party went out of control while trying to reach the stage to get closer to Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav. Police were struggling to control the agitated crowd which had crossed the barricades placed in place. Voting for Phulpur Lok Sabha seat will be held in the sixth phase of general elections on May 25. SP is contesting this seat in alliance with Congress on 63:17 formula.Samajwadi Party has fielded Amarnath Maurya in Phulpur. He will face BJP's Praveen Patel. After the conclusion of the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party chief and candidate from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat Akhilesh Yadav expressed confidence of victory and said that people are supporting India Bloc as they feel that they have been cheated by BJP. 'India alliance will win'. People are supporting India alliance. People are feeling cheated by the BJP.'' It is noteworthy that voting for Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh is taking place in all seven phases. Voting for the first four phases has already been completed, while the remaining phases are scheduled to take place on May 20.Counting of votes for all phases on May 25 and June 1 has been scheduled for June 4. In the 2017 elections, the BJP won 62 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state, despite being an ally. Apna Dal (S) won two more seats, Mayawati's BSP managed to get 10 seats, while her then alliance partner Akhilesh Yadav's SP had to be content with just 5 seats. In the 2014 elections, Congress won only one seat. BJP won 7 seats in UP, while Congress could win only 2 seats.
