New Delhi: Sribhoomi FC and Neeta Football Academy have secured promotion to the Indian Women's League (IWL) after finishing first and second respectively in IWL-2 on a dramatic final day of the league.

The former clinched the IWL 2 title with a 2-0 win over Pudhuvai Unicorns at the Dueler Stadium in Mapusa, Goa on Tuesday.

Five teams – Sreebhoomi FC, Neeta Football Academy, Garhwal United FC, Pudhuva Unicorns and FC Tuem – were in the race to win the league on the final day.

Both Sreebhoomi and Neeta FA finished the last round of the league with 1 point.

Neeta FA defeated SAG Football Academy on the final day but Neeta FA became champions due to better head-to-head record.

Garhwal United FC's Shruti Kumari was the league's top scorer, scoring 10 goals in nine matches, while Moushumi Murmu and Sikha Malik were the leading scorers for Sreebhoomi and Neeta FA, scoring seven goals each.

Sreebhoomi have been almost perfect in their IWL 2 campaign, losing only one match (1-4 against Garhwal United) in the final round. He scored 34 goals in his nine matches in the group stage and final round. Meanwhile, Nit FA scored 21 goals.

Sribhoomi head coach Sukla Dutta, who won the SAFF U1 Women's Championship with the Young Tigresses in Bangladesh earlier this year, credits her players for Sribhoomi's IWL 2 title.

"The objective was to make the team champion. I have to admit that the girls played with the right motivation and performed as per our plans. They performed excellently throughout the tournament and I am really proud and happy of them," Dutta said. "

"Once I came here, I looked closely at all the teams in the field. My goal was to reach the finals."
