“SLC clearly and strongly refutes the contents of the article and confirms that no such incident as described occurred. Therefore, SLC has clearly stated that the news report is completely false, fabricated and baseless.”

"We strongly believe that such false reporting unfairly harms the reputation of Sri Lanka Cricket, its officials and players," a statement posted by the SLC on its website read.

The article suggested that several of the team's players, along with members of the coaching staff, were part of a social gathering that the alleged organization has now disputed.

Sri Lanka faced South Africa in the group stage of the T20 World Cup. Both teams were drawn with Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal. The team was eliminated after finishing third after defeats against South Africa and Bangladesh and its game against Nepal was washed out due to rain.

SLC also demanded 'right of reply' from the newspaper to remedy and rectify the loss.

"In light of the above false allegations, Sri Lanka Cricket has requested that the newspapers concerned publish a 'right of reply' to address and rectify the damage caused to Sri Lanka Cricket," the statement said.
