“My conversation with Mirabai, Annu Rani and Abha convinces me that our athletes have received the best possible support in their preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” he said.

Mirabai Chanu highlighted the immense support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, particularly in being able to secure the services of world-renowned sports scientist Dr. Aaron Horschig from St. Louis in the United States of America, while Annu Rani spoke glowingly of being able to train for an extended period of time at European bases.

Mandaviya also interacted with other athletes enrolled in the National Center of Excellence here and some prominent coaches. He asked them for suggestions to reduce dropout rates from competitive sports. “They are receiving the necessary support. However, many of those who started with you but did not win medals are left behind. What can we do for them? she asked.

He also shared that in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's desire for overall development of sports, the government would encourage identification and nurturing of grassroots talent.

The Minister of Sports also reviewed the NSNIS and visited the various playing fields, sports science facilities and the sites of new infrastructure projects. He was also satisfied with the progress of the High Performance Center in Sports Sciences and the kitchen and dining room.

“I am delighted to be at the hallowed NIS, the traditional home of Indian sport. It remains a vital hub not only for producing quality coaches who can make a difference at grassroots level, but also has excellent training facilities. Some of our athletes who have trained at other centers around the world believe that NIS is comparable to the best,” Mandaviya said.

The Sports Minister then left for Panchkula, where he was to unveil the new logo of the Athletics Federation of India at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium.
