Kolkata: Sporadic incidents of violence were reported in seven parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal on Monday in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections as clashes broke out between TMC and BJP workers in different parts of Barrackpore, Bongaon and Arambag seats.

Although the Election Commission claimed that polling has been peaceful so far, it said it had received 1,036 complaints from various political parties till 11 am, alleging EVM malfunction and agents being prevented from entering the booths. Is.

Clashes broke out between TMC and BJP supporters in Khanakul area of ​​Arambagh constituency as both the parties clashed over stopping polling agents from entering booths.

Security personnel also recovered two live country-made bombs from the area.

TMC candidate Mithali Bagh said, "BJP goons have spread terror in the area and are scaring voters."

BJP candidate Arup Kanti Digar rejected the allegations and held TMC responsible for spreading violence on polling day.In the neighboring Hooghly constituency, sitting BJP MP and party candidate Lock Chatterjee faced opposition from TMC workers led by TMC MLA Ashima Patra.

When Chatterjee was going to a booth, TMC workers protested, raising slogans of "thief-thief".

After which BJP MPs got down from their car and raised counter slogans.

A large contingent of police and central forces reached the spot and stopped both the groups.

Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from different parts of Howrah constituency.In Liluah area of ​​Howrah, BJP accused TMC workers of booth jamming, which led to a clash between the two groups.

Central police forces reached the area and dispersed the crowd.

In Gayeshpur area of ​​Bongaon constituency, local BJP leader Subir Biswas was allegedly beaten up by TMC goons outside a booth. He was later shifted to the hospital.

In Kalyani area of ​​the same constituency, Union minister and BJP candidate Shantanu Thakur was caught using the identity card of his rival TM candidate Vishwajit Das inside a polling booth.

Later the central forces removed the person from the booth.In some areas, TMC workers protested after allegations that central forces were assisting BJP workers in intimidating voters at some booths in Hooghly.

An Election Commission official said 32.70 percent voting was recorded in seven Lok Sabha constituencies of West Bengal till 11 am on Monday.

Voting is underway in Arambag, Uluberia, Hooghly, Howrah, Bongaon, Shrirampur and Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituencies.

Of these, in the 2011 Lok Sabha elections, five seats were won by TMC and two seats were won by BJP.
