A special Air Force plane left for Kochi on Friday morning carrying the bodies of 45 Indians who died in the tragic fire in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

At least 49 foreign workers were killed and 50 others were injured on Wednesday when a fire broke out in a seven-storey building in the southern city of Mangaf, where 196 migrant workers were staying.

"A special Air Force plane has flown to Kochi carrying the bodies of 45 Indians killed in the fire incident in Kuwait," the Indian Embassy in Kuwait posted on Twitter.

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, who coordinated with Kuwaiti authorities to ensure speedy repatriation, is on board the plane.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution in Kuwait ordered the temporary detention of a citizen and some expatriates on charges of murder and accidental injury resulting from negligence in safety measures to prevent a fire, the Arab Times newspaper reported.

Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Mishaal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah has ordered authorities to provide compensation to the families of each of the 49 dead.

The Kuwait Fire Force said on Thursday that the deadly fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
