New Delhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday said presiding officers have no switch or remote control to switch off the microphones of members raising issues in the House.

Birla took strong objection to members occupying the chair and alleged that when they stood up to speak in the House, the presiding officers switched off their microphones.

The Chairman said that the allegation of switching off the microphone by the Speaker was a matter of utmost concern, adding that he wanted the House to deliberate on the issue.

"The Chairman only gives decisions/directions. The member whose name is called gets a chance to speak in the House. The mike is controlled as per the instructions of the Speaker. The person sitting in the Chairman's chair does not have a remote control or switch. There is a microphone,” he said.

Birla said the panel of Speakers has representation from members of all political parties who preside over the proceedings in the Speaker's absence.

Addressing the House, the Speaker said, "It is a matter of dignity of the chair. At least those who are sitting on the chair should not raise such objection. (K) Suresh is also sitting on the chair. Does the Speaker have a mic?" Have control." Congress veteran.

Last week, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi had claimed that his microphone was switched off when he tried to raise the issue of NEET irregularities.

"I don't have any button to switch off the microphone. A similar set-up existed earlier also. There is no mechanism to switch off the microphone," Birla said on Friday.
