An emotional Rahul Gandhi recalled his 42-year-old association with the parliamentary constituency and said he had first come to Amethi with his father, late Rajiv Gandhi, at the age of 12.

“Whatever I know about politics, I have learned from Amethi,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi further said, “I was from Amethi. I am still from Amethi and will remain from Amethi only. I will ensure that whatever Rae Bareli gets in future, Amethi will also get it.

Appealing to vote for Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma, he said that Sharma has been working in Amethi for four decades and people know him as a simple person. Rahul Gandhi said that the 2024 elections will decide the future of the country's people and the Constitution.

On his part, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said the coming together of Congress and SP is like "one and one, eleven" which will force the BJP to "nine, two, eleven".

Akhilesh Yadav reminded the farmers of the treatment meted out to them by the central government during the agitation against agricultural laws.

He promised to guarantee MSP if the Indian faction forms the government at the Centre, which the farmers were demanding from the Modi government.

“BJP wants to change the Constitution and take away your rights. They are not only against the poor but also against animals. My farmer friend in Amethi took in an injured stork and took care of it and brought it back to health. The government took possession of that crane,” he said, referring to the incident that had gone viral.

The SP leader promised to reopen all closed industrial units in Amethi.
