Madrid [Spain], Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that defender Nacho Fernández has decided to leave the club after 23 years.

The Spanish Giants issued an official statement to announce the departure of one of their most veteran players: "Real Madrid C.F. announces that our captain Nacho has made the decision to end his career as a Real Madrid player. Real Madrid wants thank and express our gratitude to Nacho, one of the club's greatest legends."

At the age of 10, Nacho joined Los Blancos in 2010. He played in the club's youth academy and made his senior debut in 2012.

Nacho maintained the defensive line for 12 seasons and was part of his golden decade. The Spanish defender played 364 games for the club and won a whopping 26 trophies.

His impressive record includes six European Cups, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, four Spanish Leagues, two Copas del Rey and five Spanish Super Cups.

During his time in the youth set-up, he won the European Under-21 Championship. He also won the Nations League with the Spanish team.

Nacho has drawn the curtain on his career in La Liga as one of the five players to have won 6 European Cups in the history of football and with more trophies with Real Madrid.

Last season he wore the captain's armband and lifted the UEFA Champions League and League title.

The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, had a heartfelt message for Nacho and stated, as quoted in a club statement: "Since he arrived as a child at our youth academy, Nacho has been an example for everyone and has earned our affection, the recognition and admiration of everyone at Real Madrid.

Nacho took to Instagram to thank the club and captioned his post, "Thank you (thank you) Real Madrid."

Nacho has yet to decide his next destination. He is currently part of Spain's Euro 2024 campaign. Spain has qualified for the round of 16 and its opponent has not yet been decided.
