New Delhi, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has said that he believes space is already an established domain of warfare and it will "make its impact" on air, sea and land domains.

In a recorded video address played at the inaugural session of the three-day Indian Defense Space Seminar in Delhi on Thursday, General Chauha also said that "space diplomacy" would soon become a reality.

Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Chairman Sameer V Kamat and other senior officers of the armed forces attended the event held at the Manekshaw Center here.

In his address, General Chauhan underlined the evolving role of space in the future war.

“I will talk about where we are and where we need to go,” he said.,

"Space is called the final frontier. Space is infinite in its expanse and is also expanding. Like all other frontiers, its edge is difficult to define very clearly. To unravel the mystery of space mankind There is a long way to go to be part of the journey that India wants,” the CDS said.

He also talked about four "astronauts-in-training" as part of India's "Gaganyaan" programme.He said, "Space is also known as an emerging domain of warfare. I believe that space is already an established domain of warfare. My belief is based on the rapid developments taking place in this particular area "

General Chauhan said that the history of war "has taught us that in any war, the initial competition generally takes place in a new area".

He said that the new domain also affects the battles of the old domain.General Chauhan said, "Initially, naval power was able to influence the battle on land. Describing space as a "global commons", he said "there can be no concept of sovereignty in space".

The CDS also said that "space diplomacy will soon become a reality".It is not necessary for friendly countries to be neighbors to cooperate in space. He said distance and geopolitical separation could be "beneficial in defense space cooperation".
