New Delhi: The government has issued an advisory to satellite television broadcasters to seek permission from India's space regulator IN-SPACe to use non-Indian satellites from April 1 next year.

In May, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) issued Rules, Guidelines and Procedures (NGP) for implementation of Indian Space Policy-2023 which states that only authorized non-Indian satellites will be allowed by IN-SPACe. to provide services in the country.

"From April 1, 2025, only non-Indian satellites/constellations authorized by IN-SPACe in any of the frequency bands will be allowed provisioning of their capacity in India," says the notification issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. , citing the relevant section of the NGP document.

Existing agreements/mechanisms/processes for provision of capacity in any of the frequency bands (C, Ku or Ka) of non-Indian satellite operators may be extended until March 31, 2025.

Starting April 1, 2025, only non-Indian GSO satellites and/or NGSO satellite constellations authorized by IN-SPACe can provide their capability to provide space-based communication/broadcast services in India, it said .

The government advisory has been issued to all teleport operators and private television channel broadcasters.

It said that any new capacity, additional capacity or change of satellite in a non-Indian satellite/constellation needs IN-SPACe clearance, through an Indian entity, to enable provision of its capacity to users for in-territory communication/broadcasting services. Indian.

The notice said that beyond March 31, 2025, only satellites authorized by IN-SPACe can provide space communications and transmission services in India, and any new or additional capacity must comply with these authorization requirements.
