Bengaluru, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said as per the police manual it is mandatory for every SP, DCP and IG rank officers to visit and inspect each station in their jurisdiction.

After inaugurating the 2024 Senior Police Officers Conference here, he said senior officers would be held responsible if gambling, betting, drugs were not stopped in their jurisdiction.

This can be avoided by asking SP and IG level officers to regularly visit every police station and inspect them.

"SP, IG should visit the stations from tomorrow itself. The scriptures should not end within half an hour of the visit," he was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the CM office.

He also warned against spreading fake news.

"Fake news is a thorn in the side of the society. They are growing rapidly. We have created fact checking units to stop them. However, fake news is on the rise. It cannot be tolerated," he said.

He directed the police officers to be more relaxed in filing complaints and take strict action without any hesitation.

He said, "If senior police officers discharge their duties properly then lower level officers will perform their duties more effectively."

Highlighting the menace of drugs, Siddaramaiah wondered why they (police) have not been able to curb the illegal sale of drugs.

He also said that unruly elements should fear the police.

Suggesting a solution, he said, "It is a matter of shame that some policemen are not aware that the e-beat system is in place."

The CM also congratulated Home Minister G Parameshwara and Karnataka Police for maintaining law and order without communal riots in the state in the last one year.
