"Just two days before South Africa's national and provincial elections, the border management authority is on high alert at all ports of entry for Monito movements," the BMA said in a statement, Xinhua news agency reported.

It arrested 28 Bangladeshi nationals at Johannesburg's OR Tamb International Airport on Saturday evening, who had come from Dubai, UAE, without any proper documents.

In the statement, BMA Commissioner Michael Masciapato highlighted the importance of cooperation with embassies and foreign missions in verifying visa validity and encouraged improvements in identification systems.

“This operation underlines the importance of our continued efforts to secure our borders and ensure that all entrants comply with our legal requirements,” the Commissioner said.

He said law enforcement has made heavy deployments across the country for the elections, including security of ballot boxes and security of national vital points.
