New Delhi, Congress on Tuesday made Anshul Avijit, son of former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, its candidate from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha seat.
He will take on former Union minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, who has been nominated by the party to contest re-election from the seat.
"The Central Election Committee has approved the candidature of Dr. Anshul Aviji as the Congress candidate to contest the upcoming general elections to the Lok Sabha from Patna Sahib parliamentary constituency, Bihar," party general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said in a statement. "
Patna Sahib seat has been a stronghold of BJP. The party won in 2009 and 2014 with 55 percent vote share, while in 2019 it increased to 60 percent.
While Shatrughan Sinha represented the seat in 2009 and 2014, Ravi Shankar Prasad is the current MP from the constituency.
