Mumbai: Voting took place in the city amid humid weather on Monday, with Mumbai residents facing delays, slow voting process and long queues, raising concerns from Shi Sena (UBT) and Congress.

While at some places people who reached polling stations early in the morning waited in queues for long hours and left without casting their votes, Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray alleged that the process was deliberately slowed down.

In the last phase of general elections in Maharashtra, voting is going on for 13 Lok Sabha seats including six seats in Mumba city.

A resident of Goregaon under Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency claims that he had to wait for 45 minutes to cast his vote.

“I felt that the officials at the polling station were taking a lot of time (to conduct the process),” he said.,

"I came to vote around noon, but it took about an hour and a half. I am a senior citizen and still came to vote, but it took longer than in 2019," said a voter in Bimbisar Nagar, Goregaon East. "

“I was told that my name was not in the voter list, so I could not vote,” said Sultan Shaikh, a resident of Bhiwandi constituency near Mumbai.

Another resident of Bhiwandi, Vimal Thakkar, claimed that the names of all his household members who are eligible to vote are missing from the list, "This is the same polling station where we voted earlier. We are also at other polling stations. Let's go."But our names were not in the list there either," he said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) also alleged that long queues were seen at some polling stations in Borivali, which falls under Mumbai North constituency, and people were waiting for more than an hour to cast their votes.

At a press conference in the afternoon, Uddhav Thackeray alleged, "There is a lot of enthusiasm among the voters, but the Election Commission is working in a partisan manner. There are delays by the Election Commission representatives in some areas."

An average of 48.66 percent voting was recorded in Maharashtra till 5 pm."Around 2,000 voters are expected to vote at one booth. The Election Commission should have provided two machines (EVMs)," said Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi, standing in a queue at a polling booth in Mumbai's Malad area. " Increase speed. It seems that the Election Commission is discouraging people from voting. Those who have been standing since 7.30 am will be able to vote at 10 am.,

Varsha Gaikwad, Congress candidate from Mumbai North Central constituency, said, "I have received complaints from voters that they do not have adequate facilities at polling stations. Long queues and the heat are testing their patience. Some people did not exercise their franchise. Have returned without home." ,

The maximum temperature recorded during the day in Mumbai was 35 degrees Celsius.
