Srinagar: Six terrorists were killed and two soldiers lost their lives in two encounters in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials gave this information on Sunday.

"Bodies of two terrorists were recovered from the Modargam encounter site, while four bodies were recovered from the Chinnigam encounter site on Sunday," he said.

A dual encounter started on Saturday in two villages of Kulgam district.

Officials said two army personnel, including an elite para commando, sacrificed their lives fighting the terrorists.

Speaking about the operation, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police RR Swain said that killing such a large number of terrorists was a major achievement.

"Undoubtedly, this is a major milestone in efforts to strengthen the security environment. These successes are very meaningful both substantively and in terms of message," he said.

Swain said, the success of the operation is an indication that the fight to end terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir will reach its end.

"This is an indication that the security architecture and people's participation is leading to the flow of human intelligence and this fight (against terrorism) will be taken to its logical conclusion," he said.
