The fire incident took place on Ibrahimpur bridge of Kachwan village of Kachwan police station area.
Kachwan police station in-charge said that the dead included three women and three children. Another victim suffered burns and was admitted to hospital.
Eyewitnesses said that there were three huts adjacent to the Kachhwa bridge and the fire broke out due to a short-circuit in the electric transformer due to sparks falling on their roofs. Due to the heat, the fire spread rapidly and engulfed all the huts.
While some residents managed to save themselves, six did not succeed in escaping.
The residents called the fire brigade and also tried to extinguish the fire but failed. Firefighters reached the spot and extinguished the fire, but by then six people had died.
After the fire, a large number of people reached the spot. Police and civil administration teams also reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
