HSA and police officers participated in the joint operation and are assisting in the investigation of 27 criminals smuggling and possession of smokeless tobacco products, Xinhua news agency reported.

Smokeless tobacco, such as chewing tobacco, snuff and snus, is banned in the city-state. It contains carcinogens or chemicals that cause cancer. If found guilty of importing, distributing or selling smokeless tobacco, there is a provision of fine, imprisonment or both.

Officers found smokeless tobacco hidden under drain covers and stuffed in trash cans and electrical boxes at Chander and Veerasamy streets, officials said.
