Mumbai, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray has said that if the central government is so concerned about 'one nation, one election' reform, then it should first conduct municipal elections in Maharashtra.

Elections to several municipal bodies in the state, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), are pending.

"If elections are being given so much importance, then hold civic body elections first," Raj Thackeray said in a post on Twitter on Wednesday. He said that by October many civic bodies would be under administrators for more than four years.

The MNS chief said the Union Cabinet has approved the recommendation by a high-level panel to hold simultaneous elections, but it should also consider the views of the states.

He also wanted to know what happens if a state government falls or the assembly is dissolved, or mid-term Lok Sabha elections are held in the country.

The Central government on Wednesday accepted the recommendations of a high-level panel to hold simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies and local bodies in a phased manner after a nationwide consensus-building exercise.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the Cabinet's decision and said that it will be a major step towards historic electoral reforms in the country.

However, various opposition parties have said that holding simultaneous elections is not practical.

Saying that many political parties are already on board, the government said that even the parties opposing it are now feeling pressure from within to change their stand due to the widespread support on the issue from the people of the country. Can.
