New Delhi, Lok Sabha member A Bimol Akoijam expressed displeasure over the absence of any reference to Manipur, a state affected by caste violence, in President Draupadi Murmu's address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament.

In a fiery speech late on Monday night, the first-time Congress member from interior Manipur drew attention to the 60,000 people living in miserable conditions in relief camps in the northeastern state since last year.

He said that every inch of Manipur was covered by the Central Armed Forces, yet 60,000 people were left homeless and thousands of villages destroyed.

Akoijam said in his speech, "Our Prime Minister is silent, not saying a single word and there was no mention of it even in the President's address. This silence is not normal."

He said that more than 200 people have been killed and a civil war-like situation has arisen, with armed people roaming around, fighting each other and protecting their villages, while the Indian state has been coping with this tragedy for a year. Has become a mute spectator.
