Two-time SKM MLA from Gangtok, Namthang-Ratepani Sanjit Kharel took oath as the pro tem speaker of Sikkim Assembly on Tuesday.

Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office to him at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang congratulated Kharel on being appointed Protem Speaker.

The first session of the 11th Sikkim Assembly will be held on Wednesday and the Pro Tem Speaker will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected members.

Officials said that the election of the speaker will also be held during the session.

Tamang on Monday took oath as the Chief Minister of the Himalayan state for the second consecutive time.

The 56-year-old politician was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Governor at a ceremony held at the Paljor Stadium here.

Along with him, 11 other ministers also took oath.

In the assembly elections held along with the Lok Sabha elections, SKM won 31 out of 32 assembly seats.
