Asked why all his stories center on women, Malhotra told IANS, “I don't know. Even my next film is about a man and a woman. But maybe I'm a feminist at heart.

Malhotra talks about 'We Are Family' starring Kajol, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Rampal.

The film, the official Indian adaptation of the 1998 film 'Stepmom', revolves around a divorced mother of three whose ex-husband brings his new career-oriented girlfriend into the family.

Malhotra also talked about Rani Mukerji starrer 'Hichki' based on Tourette syndrome.

'We Are Family' was about two women. 'Hichki' was apparently about a woman suffering from Tourette syndrome, and 'Maharaj' is about a man standing up for women and their integrity in the 1860s. He is not fighting for himself but for women.”

Malhotra believes that the power of women in his life is very strong, which naturally inspires him to create stories about them.

“I don't know, maybe it's my upbringing or the people around me… or the female power in my life is very strong. Maybe doing films about them comes naturally to me. it comes naturally. It is a calling and I have never lost sight of it in my mind,” he said.

He added, "It's the story that tells me, okay, let's tell it, and it's the universe that guides it."

After this Malhotra shared an anecdote related to 'Hichki'.

He said, "Honestly, if I try it the other way, 'Hichki' was supposed to be about a man but ended up being about a woman."
