Bengaluru, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and state Congress chief DK Shivakumar should consult senior leaders like him regarding the selection of candidates for the MLC elections.

The statement comes in the backdrop of Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar's visit to New Delhi today to hold discussions with the party high command's candidates for the biennial elections to 11 seats of the Karnataka Legislative Council on June 13.

"The Chief Minister and the KPCC president are in responsible positions. It would be appropriate that they consult seniors like us. If they take decisions on their own without consultation, it is not right according to me.People with seniority and experience, both in the party and the government and those with contacts, should discuss with us,” Parameshwara said.

Addressing reporters here, he said, "Not just me, there are many senior people like me who have served as KPCC president and who have experience and who have held important positions in the party. If their advice and opinion is taken It would be good if we go." my opinion."

Parameshwara was responding to a question on whether Chief Minister Shivakumar had sought his views on MLC candidates, or whether he had recommended any names.Asked about several ministers suggesting considering factors like region and caste while giving tickets, Parameshwara said, "It should be discussed. Both of them (CM and DCM) should not take a unilateral decision, They should look at our advice. They have to consider." According to district and caste.”

He said, “Those who have worked for the party and built it, who have stood with the community organisation, they have to be recognised, that is my opinion.,

Asked whether this was discussed during the recent dinner hosted by Shivakumar for all ministers, Parameshwara replied in the negative.

Responding to the KPCC president's order that ministers should make partial office visits to meet workers, Parameshwara said he had done the same thing when he was president for eight years.

"When Congress was in power, ministers used to go to the party office... This is the party's decision. The President might have noticed that some ministers were not following it, and hence he might have given instructions, it is a welcome move. " "H said.

Responding to a question on the discussion that there is no immediate change in the KPCC president at present, Parameshwara said that the party high command will take a decision at the appropriate time.He said, "Shivkumar is capable and functioning as the president. If he feels that he is not capable of managing because he is also the deputy CM, he will tell the high command, or the high command can take a decision on its own "

Reacting to minister KN Rajanna's statement that he was ready to sacrifice ministerial berth to serve as party president, he said, "...anybody can make sacrifices, can sacrifices be made in Congress There is a shortage of people to give?”

According to the current strength of the parties in the Assembly, Congress can win 7 seats, BJP can win three and JDS can win one seat.

The program for filing nominations for this election has started and it will continue till June 3.
