In Patna, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said he was "horrified" that the Patna High Court ruled out raising quotas for scheduled castes in Bihar.

Yadav also questioned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's "silence" in the matter and stated that his party would challenge the order in the Supreme Court if the state government did not do so.

"The CM is silent. He likes to fall at the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Let him do it again for placing reservation laws in Bihar in the ninth schedule of the Constitution," Yadav told ideo.

“I am horrified by the ruling. The BJP had been trying to scupper the caste poll, which provided the basis for increasing quotas. It is not surprising that such a verdict has come within days of the party's return to power at the Centre,” he said.

The Patna High Court on Thursday set aside its decision last year to increase quotas for Dalits, Backward Classes and Tribals from 50 per cent to 65 per cent.

The young RJD leader, whose politics is largely based on the legacy of his father and party supremo Lalu Prasad, also said he would write to the prime minister on the issue.

"I will write to him to suggest that he lead an all-party delegation, which would meet the prime minister and seek remedial measures," Yadav said.

"As far as legal recourse is concerned, the RJD will approach the Supreme Court against the high court order if the state government fails to rise to the occasion," said the RJD leader, who was deputy CM when Bihar released the report. of the caste survey, which pointed out an increase in the population of SC, ST, OBC and extremely backward classes.

The government subsequently introduced amendments to the state's reservation laws, increasing the quotas for these groups from 50 percent to 65 percent, which were unanimously approved by the legislature.
