SANAA [Yemen], A Greek-owned ship sank in the Red Sea after being attacked by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Wednesday, CBS News reported, citing UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The ship, a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier also known as MV Tutor, is believed to be the second ship sunk by the Houthis since March when it was hit by ballistic missiles fired from Houthi territory in Yemen. The British registered ship Rubymar was scuttled after.

Iran-backed Houthi rebels have launched dozens of missile and drone attacks targeting ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since Israel launched an offensive on Gaza following a Hamas attack on southern Israel last October.

As tensions rise in the Middle East following attacks by the Hamas terrorist group, major regional actors are condemning the humanitarian crisis caused by the war, CNN reports.

However, UKMTO said that Tutor was first hit by a small boat on 12 June, but the second time she was hit by "an unidentified aerial projectile".Meanwhile, US Central Command (CENTCOM) last week said one crew member was reportedly missing after the attack.

After the ship evacuated its entire crew from the ship, it reportedly began drifting before sinking on Tuesday, according to the UKMTO, CNN reports.

Earlier, a Houthi spokesman said the ship was attacked by maritime drones, ballistic missiles and other drones for violating the so-called "ban on occupied Palestinian ports".

However, CENTCOM shared at

“The Houthis claim to be acting on behalf of the Palestinians in Gaza and yet they are targeting and endangering the lives of third-country nationals who have nothing to do with the conflict in Gaza.In fact, international trade is under threat due to Houthis. "Delivering much-needed assistance to the people of Yemen as well as Gaza has become increasingly difficult," Centcom said.

Earlier this month, CENTCOM launched attacks on Houthi radar, helping to facilitate the group's ongoing attacks on ships in the Red Sea, US Central Command said.

Notably, Israel launched its military offensive in October after the Hamas-terrorist group killed at least 1,200 people and abducted more than 250 others.
