New Delhi [India], Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested an active member of Hashim Baba gang and thus foiled an extortion attempt of Rs 50 lakh. The accused has been identified as Arib alias Asif (24), resident of Kardampuri, Delhi. Police on Thursday said a sophisticated pistol with four live cartridges was recovered from him. He told that on the instructions of Hashim Baba, he along with other members of his gang was planning to extort Rs 50 lakh from a businessman of Centra Delhi. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Amit Kaushik, the Special Cell has been tasked with arresting wanted and rewarded criminals involved in sensational/heinous cases like murder, attempt to murder, extortion, robbery, carjacking, special acts, gang members operating in the Tran Yamuna Range area. The work has been assigned, hence the team is keeping an eye on the activities of such people.Criminal. In the process, a team led by Sub Inspector Neeraj Singh was working on active gang members, he said, adding that the team collected and verified information about several such gang members. After several days of hard efforts, a specific information was received that Arib, an active member of the gang, would come to meet someone at Kardampuri Pulia and he was also carrying weapons to commit crime along with his other associates, DCP Kaushik said. Acting swiftly on the information, the team laid a trap and caught the accused. During his search, a sophisticated pistol, four live cartridges and details including phone number, address and photograph of a businessman from Patel Nagar, Central Delhi were recovered from him. Accordingly, a case was registered under Section 25 Arms AC PS Special Cell and accused Areeb was arrested. During interrogation, he revealed that other senior members of his gang had instructed him to extort Rs 50 lakh from the businessman by opening fire outside his office.He said that further investigation is going on in this case, Arib was born in Kardampuri, Delhi. He studied till 10th class from the government school of Yamuna Vihar, Delhi. In 2018, when he turned 18, he came in contact with Salman Bhaunchi (an active member of Hashim Baba gang) and through him he came in contact with Hashim Baba and joined his gang. Police said he was first arrested in 2020 along with other gang members in connection with the firing and extortion from a paint shop owner of PS Jaffrabad.
