On the back of successful implementation of policies and initiatives focused on achieving 'self-reliance' under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Defense Ministry achieved the highest ever growth in indigenous defense production in value terms during FY 2024 .

Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) stock gained 9.16 per cent, Mazagon Dock gained 1.21 per cent, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) gained 0.56 per cent, Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) gained 2.80 per cent and Cochin There was an increase of 2.80 percent. Shipyard rose by 5.41 percent.

Of the total value of production (VOP) in 2023-24, about 79.2 per cent is contributed by Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs)/other PSUs and 20.8 per cent by the private sector.

It may be recalled that defense exports touched a record high of Rs 21,083 crore in FY 2023-24, showing a growth of 32.5 per cent over the previous fiscal when the figure stood at Rs 15,920 crore.

Over the last five years (from 2019-20), the value of defense production has been rising steadily, and has increased by more than 60 per cent.
