Tatkare said, "As per my information, a group of NCP MLAs led by Sharad Pawar are continuously trying to approach the Congress leadership to switch sides."

When Tatkare was asked who these MLAs were, he refused to name them and said that he would not name any person.

Tatkare's claim comes a few weeks after Sharad Pawar's statement in which he had said that some small and regional parties may merge with the Congress after the general elections.

Pawar later said that he was talking about smaller parties, not his own party, and added that he did not want to comment about the future.

NCP sources claimed that Pawar made this statement after sensing the move of his MLAs to join Congress.

On its part, the Sharad Pawar camp strongly refuted Tatkare's claim, saying that he himself is on the verge of joining the BJP after the Lok Sabha election results are declared on June 4.

"After the results, many MLAs from the Ajit Pawar camp will resign as no one wants to be on the losing side. Those who are now with Sharad Pawar have full faith in his leadership. The Ajit Pawar camp will try to save it from sinking. They are desperate for a ship and that is why they are making such absurd statements,” said NC(SP) youth wing chief Mehboob Shaikh.
