Sources said that Shahjahan's men used to force the signatures of the land owners on the power of attorney authorizing Sheikh Shahjahan to sell that land to a third party.

This was in addition to other tactics adopted by them to take over the land by flooding it with salt water and making it useless.

According to ED findings, after Sheikh Shahjahan got the power of attorney, the land was sold to third parties at premium prices, while a nominal amount was given to the actual land owner.

Sources said the ED has recently mentioned this power of attorney methodology adopted by Shahjahan in the charge sheet area before a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Kolkata.

ED sleuths have unearthed another source of income of Shahjahan, where fish farming owners were asked to sell the fish, mainly prawns and shrimp produced in their farms only to the agents selected by the leader at a nominal price fixed by him. Was forced.

Later, the same fish products were sold at a premium in the export market.

In its charge sheet filed last month, ED had accused Shahjahan of collecting Rs 261 crore by illegally occupying land in Sandeshkhali.

So far the central agency has identified 59.5 acres of illegally occupied land.

ED has so far seized property and assets worth Rs 27 crore of Shahjahan.
