The 24-year-old qualified for her first Olympics by winning in 10.71 seconds. She had won the 100 meters at the trials three years ago but was unable to compete at the Tokyo Games due to a positive marijuana test.

Melissa Jefferson was second in 10.80 seconds and Twinisha Terry was third in 10.89 seconds. All three will represent Team USA in Paris.

Richardson's victory at the US trials followed her gold medal at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, where she set a championship record of 10.65 seconds and won her first major title. Now, she has her sights set on Olympic gold in Paris.

The US Olympic Trials saw excellent performances in other events as well. Ryan Crouser won the men's shot put with a throw of 22.84 meters, while Jasmine Moore won the women's triple jump by reaching 14.26 meters on her final attempt.
