The US 8th Fighter Wing posted a photo on the Pentagon's Defense Visual Information Delivery Service website showing the arrival of F-22 stealth jets at Kunsan Air Base in Gunsan, 178 kilometers south of Seoul.

"The arrival of the Raptor demonstrates Pacific Air Forces' ability to redeploy forces from multiple strategic locations to position and enhance command and control in the Indo-Pacific region," the caption said.

The website did not disclose the exact number of F-2 jets arriving here, although the photo showed at least three, Yonhap news agency reported.

US Air Force F-22 jets openly arrived in South Korea for the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition since October last year, the first time in seven months.

Pundits suggested that the two countries could conduct joint air exercises involving F-2 jets and South Korea's F-35A fighters.
