Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Chaudhary said that on Saturday night at around 11:30 pm. A police control room (PCR) call regarding the FIR at Baby Care Newborn Hospital was received at Vivek Vihar police station, following which a police team reached the spot.

When we reached the spot, we saw that the hospital and the adjacent building were on fire.

“In the hospital, 12 newborns were admitted and one was already dead before the fire incident. All 12 newborns were rescued from the hospital with the help of others and shifted to East Delhi Advanced NIC Hospital for treatment,” the DCP said.

DCP said that fire tenders also reached the spot and brought the fire under control.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) chief Atul Garg said seven children were declared dead at the hospital, while five newborns were undergoing treatment.

"All 7 bodies have been sent to GTB hospital for postmortem. Appropriate legal action is being taken against the hospital owner Naveen Kichi, resident of Bhairon Enclave, Paschim Vihar, Delhi," the DCP said.
