Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rose around 1 per cent each on Thursday led by buying in Mumbai, HDFC Bank and Infosys and rise in US and Asian markets.

In highly volatile trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed 676.69 points or 0.93 per cent higher at 73,663.72. During the day, it reached a high of 73,749.4 and a low of 72,529.97.

NSE Nifty rose 203.30 points or 0.92 per cent to 22,403.85.

Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Financial Services, said, “The domestic market got a late boost due to strong global trends, which pointed towards lower-than-expected US consumer inflation data, which could lead to at least two interest rate cuts in 2024. Suggests cuts.,

Among Sensex constituents, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra Titan, Infosys, JSW Steel, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro and Kota Mahindra Bank were among the major gainers.

Maruti, State Bank of India, Power Grid, Tata Motors and IndusInd Bank were the laggards.

"The market exhibited volatility during trading hours but managed to gain around one per cent, indicating continuation of its recovery trend. Nifty led to a gap-up opening due to positive global cues; however "The initial gains narrowed sharply as the session progressed. Among the indices, capital goods jumped 2.05 per cent, followed by industrials (1.99 per cent), tech (1.66 per cent), realty (1.59 per cent), IT (1.55 per cent), telecom (0.99 per cent) and healthcare (0.70 per cent). .

Utilities index emerged as the only laggard.

In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong closed with gains, while European markets were trading with losses. Wall Street closed with gains on Wednesday.Global oil benchmark Brent crude fell 0.33 percent to US$82.45 per barrel.

According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 2,832.8 crore on Wednesday.

Snapping its three-day rally, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed 117.58 points or 0.16 per cent lower at 72,987.03 on Wednesday. NSE Nifty fell 17.3 points or 0.08 per cent to 22,200.55.
