Itanagar, A total of 15 eighth grade students in a government school were allegedly assaulted by their elders at a hostel in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, a police officer said on Wednesday.

School authorities suspended five senior students allegedly involved in the incident that took place on Tuesday, principal Rajeev Ranjan said.

A police complaint has also been filed in connection with the incident.

The youth at the Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya in Bordumsa were beaten with sticks, reportedly by several class 11 students in the hostel.

The injured students were taken to a hospital where they were discharged after administering first aid.

Director Rajeev Ranjan called a meeting of the disciplinary action committee.

At the meeting, committee members found five seniors guilty of inflicting physical harm and psychological trauma on eighth-graders.

Changlang Police Superintendent Kirli Padu said the process of identifying the accused students is underway and police will speak to the victims.

He assured the injured students and their parents that action would be taken against the culprits.

“We have already suspended the students who were involved in the incident. It is an isolated case. We will find out the reason,” said the director.

Ranjan said school authorities are in touch with the parents of the attacked students.

"The injuries are not that serious. The parents of the students have already conducted medical examinations," he said, adding that a parent-teacher meeting has been called and the matter will be discussed with the guardians of the class 11 students.

The director said that strict action will be taken in this case and disciplinary measures will be implemented to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

The school has classes from 6 to 12 and has 530 boarding students, including girls.
