Karachi: A senior Pakistani police officer who led a successful operation against TTP and other terrorist and criminal organizations was killed by the terrorist group in Karachi. Officials gave this information here on Wednesday.

DSP Ali Raza of Sindh Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) was shot dead by two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle in Karimabad area on Sunday. Three security guards were also injured in the attack.

Raza was shot near his house by two attackers wearing helmets. When he tried to get out of his vehicle he was hit by at least five bullets.

The CTD recovered 11 bullet shells from the crime scene, indicating the use of semi-automatic weapons in the attack.

A few hours later, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for carrying out the attack.

However, investigators probing the case are reluctant to accept TTP's claim on social media and one of them said that they are still not sure that Raza was killed by the terrorist organization.

DIG-CTD Asif Ijaz Shaikh said, “I cannot confirm this claim right now.”

He said the murder is being investigated from various angles and investigators are probing possible communal motives behind the murder.

Raza's murder came 10 years after his mentor and close associate SP Chaudhary Aslam was killed in a bomb attack by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Raza and Aslam had led a successful campaign against the Pakistani Taliban and other terrorist and criminal organizations in Karachi.

Aslam was killed in a car blast in Karachi, an attack later claimed by the banned TTP organisation.
