Kannur (Kerala), senior CPI(M) leader and LDF convenor E P Jayarajan accused Sunda of a 'conspiracy' behind the allegations surfacing over his meeting with senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar during the Lok Sabha elections. .

As the issue sparked a major controversy within the CPI(M) and the party-LDF, Jayarajan tried to play down it, saying he would correct any mistakes on his part and move forward.

Jayarajan, who is facing criticism from within his party and alliance for revealing his meeting with Javadekar to the media on the day of Lok Sabha elections, claimed he did so to avoid further trouble.

He said that no one would believe that he would join BJP. “My politics will not change overnight,” the Left veteran told reporters here.

He also alleged that whatever is happening against him is a "conspiracy of the BJP" and the media has also got involved in it "without knowing the facts".Jayarajan expressed regret that after talking to former Union Minister Javadekar for just three to four minutes, reports were published that he was going to join the BJP.

He alleged, "Is this the ethics of the media? On the basis of what evidence did the media create this news? Moreover, this news, which came out on the eve of Lok Sabha elections, was part of a planned move."

Jayarajan expressed disappointment over Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's name being dragged into the controversy.

He also alleged that KPCC chief K Sudhakaran had a role in the entire episode.

Jayarajan said he wholeheartedly welcomes the advice given by the Chief Minister.When the allegations surfaced on April 26, the day of the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala, Vijayan cautioned his party colleagues to remain vigilant in their organizations.

Vijayan indirectly used a local proverb to warn Jayarajan, saying, "If Lord Shiva becomes associated with a sinner, Shiva will also become a sinner."

In response to the controversy, leaders of the CPI, a key partner of the CPI(M)-led LDF, cautioned against the association of communist leaders with a party promoting a capitalist agenda.

The CPI(M) state secretariat is likely to meet in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday amid the ongoing controversy over the issue.

The opposition Congress has demanded that the CPI(M) leadership explain why Jayarajan met Javadekar.Rejecting the allegations, the Left party has claimed that it was a ploy by the Congress party to hide its embarrassment over its party leaders joining the BJP en masse.

It all started when senior BJP leader Shoba Surendran alleged that a middleman attempted to assist Jayarajan, "who had expressed interest in joining the BJP."

On election day, KPCC chief K Sudhakaran and leader of opposition in the state assembly VD Satheesan attacked the LDF convenor and claimed there was a secret pact between the BJP and CPI(M).
