Jiribam (Manipur) [India], The district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 in Jiribam district of Manipur citing possibility of imminent danger to human life and properties due to 'unlawful activities of some anti-social elements', a The official order said on Thursday.

As per the order issued by the District Magistrate, due to the current prevailing situation, all DLOs of Jiribam district have been directed to keep vigil and secure the concerned government offices/properties to avoid any loss of important government properties and documents.

Further, it is also informed that Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 has been invoked by this office order dated June 6, 2024.

"I, L Angshim Dangshawa, District Magistrate, Tamenglong District, Manipur, in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section 2 of Section 144 of the CrPC, 1973, as a precautionary measure, prohibit any person outside his respective residence from June 6, 2024, with immediate effect until further orders,” the order mentioned.

Due to the prevailing law and order situation in the border areas of Tamenglong and Jiribam districts, there is a possibility of imminent danger to human lives and properties which may result in breach of public peace and tranquility or riots or fights in those areas.The order states that the schedule given below describes the unlawful activities of some anti-social elements in furtherance of their evil intentions.

It said such disturbances may lead to serious breach of peace, public tranquility and endanger human life and properties. It said emergency circumstances do not permit giving proper notice to the public and hence, this order is passed ex parte. Sub-section 2 of Section 144 of the CrPC, 1973 and is directed at the public in general.

Government agencies involved in law and order enforcement and other essential services, including the media, have been exempted.The order further states that in case of emergency and persons who wish to take out procession for marriage, funeral etc. within the scheduled area, they may apply to the undersigned or the Superintendent of Police, Tamenglong for permission. And they will not take out the procession until they get written permission from the authorities.
