Bhaderwah/Jammu A group of three to four terrorists is present in the highlands of Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, a senior police officer said on Wednesday, adding that search operations are underway to neutralize them despite the challenging terrain.

Five Rashtriya Rifles personnel and a special police officer (SPO) were injured on Tuesday night when terrorists attacked a joint check post in the upper reaches of Chattargalla on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road in the hill district.

“For the last few days, we were getting information about the movement of terrorists through the intelligence wing of the district police and accordingly, check points on the (inter-state) as well as temporary checkpoints jointly by the Army and police were set up at high altitudes. were established in the areas. ) road,” Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, Shridhar Patil told reporters here.

Patil, who is monitoring the counter-terrorism operation, said a sentry at a post at Chatragalla Pass connecting Doda and Kathua districts noticed suspicious activity late on Tuesday night and challenged the suspected persons.“The terrorists started firing and the deployed soldiers fought bravely in the exchange of fire which lasted for more than one and a half hour. Some of our personnel, including a policeman, were injured, but they are all stable and out of danger,” the officer said.

He said that the entire area is being searched using modern equipment and we are hopeful that we will neutralize this group (of terrorists) very soon.

The DIG said that the group of terrorists consisted of only three to four members.

Talking about the challenges during the operation, he said that the mountains are very deep with dense forest.“We have to move strategically because there is a difference in running operations in plains and hilly areas. Searches in difficult areas take time and we have to proceed carefully to avoid any casualties on our side before neutralizing the terrorists,” he said.

According to officials, traffic movement on the busy Bhaderwah-Pathankot interstate highway has been completely suspended in view of the ongoing search and cordon operation in Chattargalla, Guldandi, Sarathal, Shankha Pader and Kailash mountain ranges.
