DUBLIN (Ohio), Indian American Akshay Bhatia continued to string together another solid result as he finished tied 7th at the middle stage of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.

Left-handed paceman Bhatia was 3-under for 36 holes with rounds of 69 and 72 and tied for seventh with Rory McIlroy (70-71) and 2024 PGA champion Xander Schauffele (68-73).

Another Indian-American was Sahith Thegala (73-71) in T-20.

Two-time Masters champion Scotty Scheffler was strong in the strong winds as he shot 4-under 68 to take a three-shot lead. With his 5-under 67 on day one, he is 9-under.

Scheffler was at 9-under 135, three shots ahead of Viktor Hovland (69) and Adam Hadwin (72), chasing another $4 million prize. Defending champion Hovland, who is T2, is attempting to become the first player to win the Memorial Tournament in consecutive years since Tiger Woods won three consecutive times (1999, 2000, 2001).

Scheffler, tied for third twice in 2021 and 2023, was chasing hard until he hit an eagle on the par-5 15th. He then took a three-shot lead with two solid par saves and a 12-foot birdie.

South Africa's Christiaan Bezuidenhout had the best performance on the second day with 67 and was four shots behind Keegan Bradley (69). Ludwig Aberg, who spent two days watching Scheffler put on a more clinical show, scored 72 and was five behind.

The Memorial is the seventh of eight signature events this season, and one of three tournaments with player hosts – the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, the Genesis Invitational (Tiger Woods) and the Memorial (Jack Nicklaus).

With a dry forecast making the Muirfield Village route even stronger, it will likely become more difficult over the weekend. or AM AM
