New Delhi, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Thursday announced that the Supreme Court will start sharing cause lists and information related to filing and listing of cases to advocates through WhatsApp messages.

The CJI made the announcement before a nine-judge bench headed by him began hearing a complex legal question arising from the petition on whether private properties can be considered "physical resources of the community" under Article 39(B) of the Constitution. Could. , which is a part of the Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSP).

"In its 75th year, the Supreme Court has launched an initiative to strengthen access to justice by integrating WhatsApp messages with the IT services of the Supreme Court," the CJI said.

Now, advocates will receive automated messages about filing cases, he said, adding that bar members will also receive cause lists on mobile phones as and when they are published.

A cause list shows the cases to be heard by the court on a particular day.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, "This is another revolutionary step...."

The CJI also shared the official WhatsApp number of the apex court and said that no messages and calls will be received on it.

Justice Chandrachud said, "This will bring about a significant change in our working habits and will greatly help in saving papers."

Under the leadership of CJI Chandrachud, the apex court is taking steps to digitalize the functioning of the judiciary.

He said that the Center has sanctioned Rs 7,000 crore for the e-court project.

The Solicitor General shared the views of the Central Government and said that it is committed to digitization of the judiciary to increase access to common litigants and lawyers.
