Sania shared a post on Instagram which read, "Dear friends and loved ones, have been given the incredible opportunity to embark on the sacred journey of Hajj. Be prepared for this transformative experience, humbly apologize for any wrongdoings and shortcomings. My heart is filled with gratitude for this opportunity to find salvation and spiritual renewal.

"I pray that Allah accepts my prayers and guides me on this blessed path. I am very fortunate and feel extremely grateful. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I embark on this journey of a lifetime. A better Hope to come back as a human being with a humble heart and strong faith."

Hajj is a sacred pilgrimage performed by Muslims to the Sacred Mosque of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This year Hajj is taking place between 14 and 19 June according to the Gregorian calendar.

The six-time Grand Slam champion ended her illustrious career at last year's Australian Open, where she lost to Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos in the final with her mixed doubles partner Rohan Bopanna.

He won his first major title at the Australian Open in 2009, winning the mixed title with Mahesh Bhupathi. He won the mixed doubles at the 2012 French Open and 2014 US Open.

In 2015, Sania partnered with Martina Hingis and the pair won three consecutive major titles, capturing the 2015 Wimbledon and US Open titles as well as the 2016 Australian Open.

Sania reached No. 1 doubles ranking for the first time in April 2015, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve the No. 1 ranking on the WTA Tour.
